Cambridge IGCSE·Co-ordinated Sciences 0654·Biology Magnification Size Of Specimens
📋Key knowledge — Cells Organisation

Formulas & equations

  • Magnification = image size ÷ actual size
  • Actual size = image size ÷ magnification

Key facts & rules

  • Animal cell components: cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria, ribosomes.
  • Plant cell extra components: cell wall (cellulose), chloroplasts, large permanent vacuole.
  • Prokaryotic cells (bacteria): no nucleus, no membrane-bound organelles, smaller, circular DNA.
  • Eukaryotic cells: have a membrane-bound nucleus (animals, plants, fungi).
  • Mitochondria: site of aerobic respiration (ATP production).
  • Ribosomes: site of protein synthesis.
  • Chloroplasts: contain chlorophyll, site of photosynthesis.
  • Mitosis produces 2 genetically identical diploid daughter cells (growth, repair, asexual reproduction).
  • Cell → Tissue → Organ → Organ system → Organism.
